With over 6 million users, TwitCasting, by Moi Corporation, is one of the hot topics among young teen girls.
By using a smartphone, you can send live videos wherever and whenever you want. Their simple steps make the rapidly increasing users to upload a video extremely easy. Here, we would like to interview about TwitCasting as well as the reason for relocating. (Last Update: April 24, 2014)

Five months have passed from the day we met. We were greeted by stylish entrance, and as we entered the automatic door, there was a beautifully curved spacious elevator hall.

Stepping into their office which is located on the top floor of the building, we first see “moi!” their company name and a familiar greeting engaged by the TwitCasting users.

Next to their office entrance, TwitCasting original cushions are placed on the sofa. This cushion is one of their most popular original goods.

Here’s their new office. The space is filled with a home-like atmosphere.

On the wall, “Nintai” is displayed. It means perseverance, and is the guiding precepts of their company.

The office is located on the 7th floor, and has a great view from the balcony. Coincidently, their last office was also on the 7th floor as well.

We were able to interview Moi Corporation’s director, Mr. Oomori.

How did TwitCasting progress?

It’s been almost four years since we started the service in an area where we had knowledge and technical skills. With streaming live videos online, we focused on how the users can resort to our service to create social communication. Then, without much PR, it was spread through word of mouth, and probably became a natural part of users’ conversation and even their daily life.

Did you expect this much popularity from teenage girls?

No, not at all. That was unexpected. We were aiming for those who experienced sudden interesting events, and captured on video. But those moments rarely happen, and it was hard to expand the business with such a small target. Streaming videos in a more serious situation were what we first had in mind; people reporting places where TV cameras couldn’t reach when earthquake struck in Tohoku, the government airing political elections, and reporting live demos against government policies that is happening outside Japan. Girls taking videos of their daily makeups and conversations were a surprise.

Why do you think teenage girls are the heaviest users?

For teenage girls, I believe, TwitCasting is a place to share ordinary life events. For example, make-up is usually a time to face a mirror alone. But with computers and smartphones replacing mirrors, talking and having a reply back is now possible. When they first started to stream live make-up videos, most girls wore masks to cover most of their identity, but now they expose their faces, just like showing it to your friends.

Relocating to a bigger office. What did you exactly look for?

Our first priority was to be close to a convenient train station in Chiyoda-ku. Possibly within 5 minute walk from Kanda or Akihabara Station. Of course, Tokyo Station was the best, but the rent price was expensive. On the other hand, Kanda is an area with great accessibility, with reasonable monthly rent. From a few choices, this building we are in right now was the first one Mr.Kagayama recommended. It was a recently built building with a high grade exterior. When we first viewed the property, we knew we had to move in. Also, since the closest train station had few train lines running, we thought it’ll be convenient when we recruit more employees who would most likely be commuting from different places.

How is your new office?

Most of the first time visitors say “I wish I worked here, it’s so cool!” Since the building was made with bare concrete, we didn’t have to do that much furnishings. As for company atmosphere, it’s the same in a good way. I believe office is supposed to be a place where people can see each other’s faces and say hello to one another. Even though few more people have already joined our office and we need to start thinking about moving to a bigger one again, I would like to keep on preserving the environment where we can have an open communication.

Lastly, what is the future of TwitCasting?

TwitCasting has fairly spread through Japan, and we aim to gain more users in a natural way. But as for nations abroad, we need people to know and explore our services in the first place. That will be our main challenge.

On the operation side, what kind of relationship do you want with the users?

This is just my thought, but I think web service is supposed to be a platform that does not impede user's creativity. It is up to the users to offer interesting contents. So the main theme is not to interfere with their willingness. With that being said, what we can do is to prepare and supply the necessary tools and keep up with the change and the speed the users are heading in.

Through this interview, I was able to reaffirm that TwitCasting does not only offer live video streaming, but is also a communication platform. What stood out the most is that in a friendly atmosphere, employees were discussing in a serious look. With their company expanding, it was lucky for us to be able to help their office relocation. Thank-you for your time and cooperation!
